TMA-SA CEO Insights November 2021

By Bruce Berry, CEO of TMA-SA

The approaching festive season and end of the year provides the opportunity for some reflection. After a somewhat lockdown-induced, subdued holiday season last December, it has been encouraging to see the roll out of the Covid-vaccinations during the latter part of the year and the re-opening of the country to international travelers.

The downside, of course, is that the virus is still among us so members need to continue to observe the Covid protocols.

Nevertheless, the economy has shown remarkable resilience with the latest economic growth forecast being revised upwards, although we are ending the year with an increase in interest rates.

 Namibian Branch Launch

TMA has ended the year on a high following the launch of the Namibia region earlier this month. Our thanks, and a special mention, goes out to Elmar Burger for taking on the challenge and being our champion in Windhoek. Alastair and I were fortunate to attend the launch, which is covered in more detail in the report from Elmar. Suffice to say, we are delighted to welcome new members from Namibia and in doing so, we have hit our target of 200.

TMA is also expanding in other areas, and as I mentioned last month, new Chapters have recently opened in South America and Nigeria. Despite all the other challenges that we have faced as a country, I am pleased that TMA, as a brand and in SA remains, healthy. Members are reminded of the forthcoming Distressed Investors Conference which takes place in Las Vegas in February 2022, the details of which can be found at https://distressed.turnaround.org/.

 New Year, New Strategy

The new year begins with the Board strategy session at the end of January. Thereafter, we will launch our revamped and updated website. We are also hoping to resume hosting in-person events, so there is a lot to look forward to. In the meantime, please take the time to rest and recharge during the holidays in order to be ready to take on the challenges of 2021.

Thank you for your continued support and may the new year be happy, prosperous and healthy for us all.

Bruce Berry
