Background and experience

Ben joined KPMG in 1986 and was involved in the audits of Sasol, Gencor, Escom, Volkskas Industrial Bank, MLS Bank and Finansbank. He was seconded to the office of the Auditor General from 1990 – 1992, during which time he was involved in Performance Auditing of Central Government Departments and Local Authorities.

He was transferred to Cape Town in 1992 to assist with the liquidation of Cape Investment Bank. He was further involved in the liquidations of Tollgate Group, Fancourt Golf Estate, Leisurenet Ltd and Health & Racquet Club Investments.

From 2002 to 2005 Ben assisted the Curator of Saambou Bank in Pretoria. He was responsible for the day to day operations and activities of the bank with a staff compliment of +- 300 people. This included the day to day treasury functions of the bank and the collection of the various debtors books of R14 Billion. From 2005 Ben has been involved with Restructuring Advisory work and performed Independent Business Reviews on various businesses. This included businesses in transport, sugar cane distilling, motorcar parts manufacturing, property development, retail, short term insurance, provident funds, meat export, construction, mining, wine and flower farming.

Ben specialises in company workouts, turnarounds, operational and financial restructuring, cash management, project management and cost reduction.
